"It was quite a success overall for everyone! Even the school president came by and said it was great. The photographers are Dio Chen, Minoosh Zomorodinia, Eva Recinos, and Lisa Boling (me). Also all the graphic marketing stuff was designed by me, the photos in the marketing materials were taken by Alex Molinari." Lisa Boling, curator

MUDPEOPLE Person - Mike Mollett Visits

Mike is a long time friend from Inter DADA 84 days. He is part of the LA DADA duo and is an amazing poet and performance artist. We had a chance to hangout while his wife Dee met with a childhood friend.

I remember a couple of visits to LA when we went performance art clubbing, where Mike was well known, and paraded down Venice Beach boardwalk with other artists in costume during DADAFEST LA's early days. LA DADA includes Mike and Neal Taylor (Skooter), and sometimes Lon Spiegelman. Mike was always pushing for things to be "more political" and some days I privately viewed him as an anarchist.

Mike says of his visit to S Florida, "I did get in 5 rounds of swimming. 8 laps, 10, 12, 14, then 16 laps of getting in better shape for the MUDGIG at Highways Perf. Space."

What's the MUDGIG? He refers to the MUDPEOPLE, a self-named "urban tribe" that eschews spoken language and most clothing for its walkabouts in local parks, the LA River, and at other public spots and events.

See this video to get the idea: MUDPEOPLE explore the Los Angeles River Mike Mollett's infamous MUDPEOPLE discover a mysterious treasure hidden in the Los Angeles River wilderness. Filmed in Los Angeles, California.

Emergency Index Documents RELEASE Score

Emergency INDEX, Volume 2, includes contributions from artists, poets, scholars, activists, advertisers, computer scientists, theater ensembles and filmmakers presenting more than 300 performances made around the world in 2012.

Included is my score titled RELEASE Score performed by Allan Revich. See the score in my October 2012 posts.

This is a bible of performance art activity. And if you are, like I am, a believer in performance art and the value of this ephemeral art activity to change the hearts and minds and consciousness of people, then you need to have this bible in your life. The end. —Martha Wilson

We've been seeing performance art materialize around us, but without feeling that there was a context for such ideas. Artists have been doing such pieces  for a long time without much recognition that in fact their ideas are related. Now, with Emergency INDEX, we get the sense of a magical secret shared among many artists. Emergency INDEX is a profoundly important publication. It guides us to a new place. —Robert Ashley

Space Center Performance - 1983

In 1983 I was granted a residency at the Space Center in Alamagordo, NM near White Sands. My project was to create a multi-media performance in the planetarium dome using lasers, videos in a bank, a talking computer, and an electronic keyboard. The theme was space or related to manned space exploration, as interpreted by an artist. In these photos you see components of the performance and this first image shows the heavens projected on the dome as I (in the white light area) work with the computer speech while a video of a shuttle plays in the background. The following image shows me at the keyboard followed by images of the video. The technical script is included.

Look how old the computer equipment looks!

Wanna Be An Astronaut?

Performed at the Victoria Theater during the Inter DADA 84 festival is the song, Wanna Be An Astronaut, with a back-up band.

Retrogrades Perform at La Mamelle

The Retrogrades was 3 person electronic and multi-media group that was part of a series of performances I call my "Space Series" that existed for a short period in 1983-4.
