William S Wilson (Bill) - 1932 to 2016

Sad news - Bill and I grew up across the river from each other and our families were connected since 1600s. It was Ray who first learned of the connection and brought us together. He was incredibly generous sending me a large box of Ray J postcards and note pads to hand out to workshop participants. I miss him!

Fluxjob Exhibit at Minnesota Center for Book Arts

It might be cold this winter but things are heating up at the Minnesota Center for Book Arts. Fluxjob is an exhibition of Fluxus art, a non-movement that expanded the definitions of what art can be. Fluxjob is an exploration of contemporary artists who continue to create interdisciplinary anti-art that is ephemeral, inexpensive, and interactive.

A couple of my early lettepress works and a score print are included in the exhibit.

Fluxfest NYC - 2011

Again I was unable to attend a Fluxfest due to health and family. My mom died during this time so my energies and attention were not focused entirely on art. I was however able to participate in absentia via a new poster design and Catherine Bennett acted as my stand in for the Fluxus West induction. Don Boyd presided while the following were inducted:

Artists Participate in Discovery Ride

Yesterday was an important milestone in art and in my own participation in NASA’s space program with the launch of the last manned shuttle Discovery heading to the Space Station. A reproduction of my work is included with a group of international artists aboard Space Mission STS-133 which departed the NASA Kennedy Space Centre at 4:50 pm EST.

A recent project was created by Gary A. Bibb, in collaboration with Cecil Touchon.  Fluxface in Space documents the entries by 127 artists from 26 nations to NASA’s public program whereas you could submit a photo and your name to be added to a microchip going along for the ride to the Space Station.

This wasn't my first participation with art in space but one of many "performances" on the theme - go to June 2010 entries in this blog to see more about past activities. 

Last September I arranged for a group of Fluxus artists to visit Kennedy Space Center, performing throughout the day. See the blog Inter-Florida FLUXUS Tour  for full documentation of the tour. During this tour we exhibited (and almost lost in weightlessness) a copy of the Fluxface in Space project.

 This actually looks pretty close to what I look like when the temps dip down into the 40s here.

Opening of A Book About Death @ Belknap Mi
